The book for the meeting is Adam Mickiewicz: Zycie romantyka by
Roman Koropeckyj,
published by WAB in 2014.
Dr. Koropeckyj is a
Professor of Slavic Languages & Literatures at UCLA where he
teaches Polish and Ukrainian Literatures as well as Central and
East European culture.
The book was written originally in English and is available on
Amazon.

Sundance Cinemas
present the movie Ida directed by Pawel Pawlikowski. This 2013
black and white film, set in Poland in 1960s, stars Agata
Trzebuchowska as the 18-year-old orphan who is about to take
the final vows as a nun in a convent when she discovers her Jewish roots
and Agata Kulesza as her worldly aunt on the journey of
discovery. The films received many awards at international
festivals.
In Polish with English subtitles.

Polish American Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest presents a
networking opportunity as well as a presentation by Mr. Mirek
Proppé
on investment opportunities in Cracow, Poland. Mr.
Proppé
is a partner at KPMG in Poland and also currently studying in
the Executive Master of Public Administration program at the UW
Evans School. Krakow is the old capital in the south of Poland
and has rich access to researchers, industrial traditions and
skilled workforce.

Polish Art Exhibition at Sebi's in Seattle |

The Polish owned Sebi's
presents
an art exhibition New Visions by Polish Artist by several
artists based in the Seattle area. The exhibition features
paintings, pastels and drawings by the following artists: Teresa
Bularz, Izabela Gabrielson, Agnieszka Kownacka, Liliana Krynska,
Alisa Lahti, Jolanta Marchewka, Cady Plewa, Kate Pawluskiewicz and Kasia
Barski-Pokora.
At the opening
night, wine & hors d'oeuvres will make it easier to appreciate
the wonderful art and to talk tothe artists.
The exhibit is coordinated by Izabella Chamerski.
Where: Sebi's Bistro in
Seattle; the exhibit is available during the Bistro business
hours from Mon to Sat each week.

This is an additional showing of Life Feels Good. The
movie came at the top of the Most Liked Films category and Dawid
Ogrodnik won the Best Actor vote and the Golden Space Needle
Award. The film directed by Maciej Pieprzyca is a moving testament of the human spirit overcoming frustration
and naysayers with good nature.

The Confrontational Theatre Company of Seattle presents a play
Starling by local author Julia Nardin. The action is set
at the background of the Warsaw Uprising of 1944. Two sisters
grapple with a moral dilemma of choosing between a duty to their
country an a moral imperative of saving the life of an enemy.
Starring Katherine Jett and Danika Golombek, directed by Beau
Prichard.

Children's Book Club at the second meeting. The
Club follows the Poczytajki or Story Time idea of
reading interesting stories in Polish to children in a friendly
and fun atmosphere. The texts will be adapted to the ages of the
kids present and activities will include drawing related stories
and discussing tales with school-age children. Organized by
Polish Library volunteers Monika Johnson and Helena Szostkiewicz

Theatre of Toronto presents a play in Polish Tejemnice
Ordonki written and directed by Kazimierz Braun and starring
Maria Nowotarska and Agata Pilitowska. The play is about the
famous Polish cabaret and movie star before WWII, Hanka
Ordonówna. Mr. Braun is a writer, playwright, director and a
university professor based in Buffalo, NY.
