invited - individuals and families, members and guests - to celebrate the summer
at the
yearly picnic of the Seattle-Gdynia Sister
City Association.
Come to
enjoy great food, to learn about the SGSCA upcoming activities,
to meet the three Gdynia High School students who recently
attended the Washington Business Week program:
Maciej Kotarbinski, Piotr Jozwik and Krzystof Holke,
and
to socialize with other Polish-Americans
while munching on roasted kielbasa and other delights.

The 2014 Czech
That Film Festival
presents a sneak preview of movie Burning Bush directed by
Agnieszka Holland. This 2013 gripping and thoughtful film is
based on Jan Palach's defiant act of self-immolation in
Prague in 1969.
It was made as a mini-series for the Czech HBO and
is screened in three parts about 80 min each with short
intermissions.
Ms. Holland is an Oscar winning Polish director and
screenwriter.
The film received seven Czech Lions including the
Best Pictures.

Meet the Author: A. O. Peart in Seattle, Bellevue & Elsewhere |

Local author A.
O. Peart (Angela Orlowski-Peart) will be signing her books at
several book stores in the Pacific Northwest including Seattle,
Bellevue, Bainbridge and Silverdale, WA. Ms. Peart was born and
raised in Poland and lives in the Seattle area. She has
published several books series for young adults.

The Polish
Parish in Tacoma is hosting an icon of
Our Lady Of Czestochowa. It is a faithful copy of the famous
Black Madonna icon from the Czestochowa sanctuary. The icon is
on an American Ocean to Ocean tour. The veneration starts
with a greeting of the icon on Monday, July 21 at 4 pm and ends
with a farewell mass on Tuesday, July 22, at 10 pm. Please check
the Parish bulletin for a detailed non-stop program.

July 11-24: Movie Venus in Fur

Varsity Theatre presents a film Venus in Fur directed by
Roman Polansky and adapted from a play by David Ives, starring
Emmanuelle Seigner and Mathie Amalric. This two person movie,
showing a clash of two wills and minds got many favorable
reviews. It was also presented at the Seattle International
Festival in June.

Library Assn invites everybody to The Beauty of Early Polish
Music concert in the Polish Music at Polish Hall
series. The program includes Polish Baroque music by Adam
Jarzebski (17c.), Johannes Grudentinus (17c), Jacek Rozycki
(17c.) and Johann Janitsch (18c.), performed by Musica Maestrale early music
masters playing on replicas of early instruments.

Exhibit: 25th Anniversary
of Democracy in Poland

It is the 3rd annual Polish Festival in Seattle.
After a smashing success of the 2012 & 2013 events, the festival has been
included in the ethnic festival lineup at the Seattle Center.
The venue has been expanded this year and includes the Armory (the old Center House) and
the Mural Amphitheatre.
Attractions include:
live performances by folk groups, jazz artists, modern
dance, folk fashion show, workshops, children’s activities and dancing. Vendor booths offer Polish
glass art, hand-crafted pottery, crystal, jewelry, and paper
cut-out art. Also available: plenty of great Polish food and a
beer garden. New this year: traditions of northern Polish
regions of Pomerania & Kaszuby and an exhibition about
Solidarity on the 25th anniversary of democracy in Poland.
Polish Consul General Mariusz Brymora and Congressman Jim McDermott will
be present at the Grand Opening of the Festival that will be mc-ed
by Bran Goode, a KOMO4 TV news anchor.
