In this talk, His
Excellency Victor Ashe, the US
Ambassador to Poland
since June, 2004, will give his personal perspective on the current
developments and activities in
Poland. As the country’s joining of
the European Union in May, 2004, turned out to be better than
expected,
Poland enjoys GDP growth in the
range of 4-5%.
Poland
is 6th biggest EU country with the 2004 GDP estimated at
over $240 billion. The meeting is organized by the Trade Development
Alliance of Greater Seattle; please note that RSVP is required.

11 am: Polish Book Club
meeting in Redmond
The book for this
meeting is Wszystkie jezyki swiata by
Zbigniew Mentzel, published by Wyd. Znak in 2005. This multilayered
novel set in Poland
around 2000 but with reminiscences about growing up in the 1950s and
the 1960s has all the critics raving about it.

can be bought over the Internet from Polish bookstores such as
Dom Ksiazki or borrowed from other club members, see

Rosario brings Moniuszko to Seattle

Soprano Mariatana
del Rosario is a recent graduate of Johns
HopkinsUniversity and the winner of the
Marcella Sembrich 2005 Vocal Competition and Scholarship, currently
enrolled at the University
of Washington in
Seattle. For her winner’s American tour she
prepared a program that includes music of many European composers
such as Berlioz, Strauss and Puccini as well as Stanislaw Moniuszko.
Her Pre-Recital performance in
Seattle will include the beautiful aria
Gdybym rannym slonkiem
(If by the Morning Sun) from Halka by Moniuszko,

Polish Home closes for the summer
The
Polish Home will be closed on Friday nights from July 1 till the end
of August this year. It will reopen in September.
