Till Feb 29: The Creative Genius of the Lands Between Exhibit at the UW

The University of Washington Libraries present an exhibition The Creative Genius of the Lands Between: East Central Europe and the Nobel Prize in Literature, 1905-2020. The exhibit includes a 4-minute subtitled video presentation by Olga Tokarczuk, the 2018 Nobel laureate. A total of 15 literature prize winners since 1905 are subject of the exhibit, including four Poles.

    

Where: at North Lobby, 1st floor balcony , Allen Library at the UW campus in Seattle; free admission during regular library hours

Feb 21-27, Movie Corpus Christi by J. Komasa at SIFF Year-Round Cinema

SIFF Year-Round Cinema presents the Oscar nominated movie Corpus Christi / Boże Ciało directed by Jan Komasa and starring Bartosz Bielenia. This based on a true story film shows how a freshly converted juvenile ex-convict can bring a true Christian spirit in people while impersonating a priest. The movie has been showered with awards at different festivals and was nominated to the 2020 Oscars in the Best International Feature Film category.

Feb 21, from 7 pm: Comedy Testosterone at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish Film Club Kino OKO presents a 2007 hormonal comedy Testosterone / Testosteron directed by Tomasz Konecki and Andrzej Saramonowicz. A lavish celebrity wedding goes haywire with the bride absconding and the groom being kidnapped. In Polish with English subtitles

Evening schedule: 7 pm socializing & film intro, 7:30 pm screening.

 Feb 21, 7:30 pm Everything Is A Wave Sound Bath at Seattle Sound Temple

Seattle Sound Temple presents Everything Is A Wave, with musician and sound practitioner, Borys Kossakowski. This performance is a spimd bath and a spiritual journey. Borys leads the listeners into the abyss of waves working with the clarinet, bass clarinet, guitar, tuning forks, singing bowls, gongs and more. This unique sound experience will relax and stimulate you!

Feb 19, 3:30 pm: Treasures from the Other Europe Exhibit at the UW

The University of Washington Libraries present an open house exhibition of its treasures from its Slavic, Baltic and East European collections. This exhibit has been curated by Prof. Michael Biggins, Head, Slavic/East European Section of the UW Libraries

Feb 16, from 5 pm: Friends Corner with Specialists at the Polish Cultural Center

Friends' Corner presents a meeting with several Polish specialists and professionals active in the Seattle area. The program includes short presentations and Q&A with the following people: a psychiatrist, a homeopathic consultant, a certified doula, a veterinary doctor, a real estate agent, a loan broker and the manager of the Polish Cultural Center. Friends' Corner is hosted by Teresa Vaisvila who will also provide a tasty borscht and bread as well as tea and pastries. All are welcomed!

Feb 15, from 8 pm: Valentine's Dance Party at the Polish Cultural Center

Get your beau or belle and come to Valentine's Dance Party! Doors open at 7 pm, dance with DJ Krys and DJ Borys from 8 pm. Polish restaurant invites from 6:30 pm till 10 pm, the bar will be open as usual from 7 pm.

 Feb 14, 7:30 pm till April 19: Agnieszka Polska: Love Bite at the Frye Museum

The Frye Art Museum presents Agnieszka Polska's Love Bite exhibition. Ms. Polska is a Polish artist who lives and works in Cracow and Berlin. She creates hallucinatory computer-generated media works that combine poetic texts, audio-visual essays and digital imagery to take on ethical problems of our times. Her works were exhibited at MoMA in NYC, Tate in London, Centre George Pompidou in Paris and other places. The exhibition runs from February 15 to April 19, 2020.

Feb 9, from 1 pm: 2020 Chopin NW Festival Winners’ Concert in Bellevue

Frederic Chopin

The Northwest Council of the Chopin Foundation presents the gold medal winners concert of the 2020 Chopin NW Festival. The competition is on February 8, 2020 from 9 am to 6 pm. As usual, the best young artists from our state are expected to deliver great performances of Chopin music. The program includes

   1:00 pm    Division A, B, C and D winners (ages 8 to 14)

   2:30 pm    Division E, F and G winners (ages 15-16, 17-18 and 19 & up, respectively)

Feb 9, 2 pm: Kaminska & Bowlby in a Schumann Concert in Bellevue

Feb 9, 3:30 pm: Story Time Zielone Czytanki at the University Branch Library

Seattle Public Libraries present Story Time in Polish Zielone Czytanki for children 2-5 years old. The program for this event includes: reading from children books, dancing & singing and children games and activities.  Each meeting has a specific reading and songs that you can try with your child! This week's theme will be turtles. In addition to regular activities there will be a visit from a real live Eastern Box turtle! This is a monthly event on every second Sunday of the month organized by Ada Kaliszewska.

Feb 8, from 7:30 pm: Swing It Saturday at the Polish Cultural Center

Polish Cultural Center and Swing It Seattle present the monthly Swing It Saturday dance party also featuring workshops and performances. Come swing dance to live music! Event schedule: 7:30-8:15 Drop-in beginner lesson, 8:15-11:15 Live music with Brad Shigeta's Swingtime Band. This event includes special swing performances from the Swing It Seattle community. No partner or experience needed - come join the fun! The bar will be open upstairs for the event.
