Apr 27, 2:30 pm: Easter Egg Sharing at the Polish Cultural Center

A traditional meeting of members & friends of the Polish Home with sharing of the Easter eggs and a dinner; Fr. Andrzej Galant, the pastor at the Polish Parish in Seattle, will be present. Organized by the Ladies Auxiliary and the Polish Home Association.

Apr 26, 11 am: Polish Book Club Meeting at  the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Bezdech by Andrzej Bart, published by WAB in 2013. Bart is a Nike nominated novelist, screenwriter and film director. Movie Reverse based on his novel won the Golden Lions award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia in 2009.

Apr 23, 7 pm: Military Security of Poland and the Baltics at the UW

Glen Grant

University of Washington presents a lecture Military Security of Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland  by Glen Grant. Mr. Grant is a lecturer at Riga Business School and Lt. Col. of Royal Artillery (retired). His military career included staff planning for different wars and later NATO posts. As a British defense attaché he was posted in Finland and Estonia. He also served as a ministerial defense consultant in the Baltic states.

Apr 19: Easter Food Basket Blessing (Święcone)

This is the schedule for blessing of the traditional Easter food baskets in nearby churches on Holy Saturday, April 19, 2014.

 

 Bellevue: Sacred Heart 9 am, St. Louise, 2 pm

 Sammamish: Mary Queen of Peace at 1 pm, with a Polish lunch at the parish hall afterwards

 Seattle:  St. Margaret’s, 10 am, 11 am, 12 pm, 1 pm & 2 pm and after the evening paschal liturgy

 Tacoma: Sts. Peter & Paul, no info

Apr 11 & 13, 18 & 20 : Polish Cultural Center Closed for Easter

As is the tradition, the Polish Home is closed on Good Friday, April 18, 2014. The restaurant is also closed from April 11 through Easter Sunday, April 20, reopening on Apr 25, 2014.

Apr 13, 1 pm: Celebration of Mazurkas in Portland

Polish Hall in Portland presents a Celebration of Mazurkas concert in the Polish Music at the Polish Hall series. In the program: mazurkas by Polish composers F. Chopin, K. Szymanowski, R. Maciejewski and  H. Wieniawski performed by Pacific NW pianists Diane Davis, Ruta Kuzmickas and Mitchell Falconner as well as MT Duo T. Kolchanova & Mary Rowell. Polish mazurka cakes, an Easter tradition, will be served with coffee, tea and fine Polish liqueurs.

Apr 12, noon - 6 pm: Spring Bazaar at the Polish Cultural Center

The lovely Bazaar staff

The Spring Bazaar is an annual event organized by the Ladies Auxiliary. The booths upstairs offer Polish crystal bowl and vases, amber and silver jewelry, pottery, crafts, books, Easter eggs and much more. Downstairs you can enjoy traditional Polish dishes served by the young waiters clad in Polish folk costumes. You can also buy home-made desserts and pastries. This is usually a crowded event, so come early.
 

Volunteers needed: 1) Making pierogi  for the bazaar, contact Agnieszka Szymula (Tuesdays from Feb 5 till March 12 at 7 pm at the Polish Home), 2) setting up tables on the day before, contact Alisa Lahti.

Apr 6, 4 pm: Student Piano Recital at the Polish Cultural Center

Frederic Chopin

Lilian Szlaga Piano Studio presents a yearly piano recital celebrating music of Frederic Chopin. Ms. Szlaga will open the concert with Fantasie - Impromptu op 66. The program includes mazurkas, nocturnes, preludes, waltzes and polonaises by Chopin performed by the Studio students from 11 to 18 years old. The Polish Home restaurant is open from 1 to 4 pm.

Apr 5, 10 am: Pisanki: Polish Easter Egg Workshop in Seattle

Alisa Lahti invites again to her very popular workshops. Pisanki is a very old art of egg painting, where hot wax is drawn on an egg to create intricate patterns, the egg is then dyed wonderfully vibrant colors. Come learn this technique and take home some of your own beautiful Easter eggs! All materials provided.

  

Where:  at the artist's studio on March 22 & April 5 at 10 am to 2 pm; $25 per person. Please note: based on past experience class size is limited to 5 people, so make your reservations early.

Apr 1, 8 pm: Coldair in Concert at the Sunset Tavern in Seattle

Tobiasz Bilinski

Coldair is a creation of one musician, the multi-instrumentalist Tobiasz Bilinski, one of the most talented young  artists in the independent alternative/indie music scene in Poland. Coldair is promoting his last CD, Whose Blood, on his first American tour. At the Sunset, Bilinski will share the scene with other alternative/indie groups: Liiight, Rainbow Wolves and Sacred Signs.
