The book for the meeting is
Balzakiana by Jacek Dehnel published by Wyd.
WAB in 2008. Balzakiana is a set of four stories based loosely on
Balzak's works.
Dehnel, 29, is an accomplished writer, poet,
painter and TV personality; his work won such prestigious awards as the Koscielskis'
(2005) and the Polityka Paszport (2006)
The book can be bought on the
Internet or borrowed from Club members. Club meetings are in
Polish.

Brzostowska is a painter and art teacher based in
Warsaw,
Poland, where
she also runs her own gallery,
Galeria Konstancin.
Her impressionist art, full of color and light was
featured in exhibitions all over Europe as well as in
Japan
and Canada.
The artist is in
Seattle
for the opening night on March 7 from 6 pm.

Local artist Kate (Kasia) Pawluskiewicz moved back to Seattle
recently and has a local exhibition available on the first
Thursday at Davidson Contemporary Gallery in Seattle. It
features new paintings from her Everlasting series. The
exhibition includes works from four other artist, including Mark Nickols, the mayor's brother. Come hobnob to the gallery rain or
shine.

Szlaga Piano Studio invites to a yearly piano recital
celebrating music by Frederic Chopin as well as the 199th
birthday anniversary of the master. Ms Szlaga will
open the concert with
Scherzo B-Minor Op.20. The
program includes mazurkas, nocturnes, preludes, polonaises,
waltzes and etudes by Chopin performed by the
Studio students.

UW Polish
Studies Endowment Committee invites to a private reception with
Malgorzata Walewska, a
mezzo-soprano performing at the Seattle Opera in
Bela Bartok's
Bluebeard's Castle from Feb 21 to Mar 7 (see
more here). A reservation to the reception includes a ticket
to the Feb 28 performance of the opera. The reception is a
fundraiser for the Polish Studies at the University of
Washington.
