Polish picnic

Aug 28, noon-5 pm: SGSCA picnic at the Woodland Park

Everyone is invited - individuals, families and guests - to celebrate the summer at the yearly picnic of the Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association. Come to enjoy the City park on the Green Lake while munching on roasted kielbasa and other delights.

 

Where: Lower Woodland Park in Seattle, shelter # 4, watch for the SGSCA banner; admission free, food and drinks provided, please bring a salad or dessert to share

Aug 27, 10 am - 1 pm: Fall cleanup at the Polish Cultural Center - please help!

Polish Home Assn invites members and friends of the Polish Home to a fall cleanup in and around the building before the new season. It is a tradition that PHA officers and trustees lead by example in this effort, but the more people, the easier it is, so please come to help! Both the old and new part of the building need attention, inside and outside. Free lunch will be served for all the volunteers!

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home from 10 am to 1 pm, every pair of hands helps! Free lunch served!

Aug 21, noon - 5 pm: Polish Home Assn. picnic at the Lincoln Park

This is the main picnic of the summer for the Polish community of Seattle; it is organized by the Polish Home Association. Come and share good food and fun! There will be grills available, free drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs for kids and teenagers as well as friendly games and competitions with awards. Everybody is invited.

 

Where: shelter #2 at the Lincoln Park in Seattle, watch for a Polish flag and the PHA banner; admission free, bringing your food & drink to share is optional but welcomed

Aug 21, 4-7 pm: Pierogi sale at the Polish Cultural Center

Pierogi special: frozen pierogi (Polish dumplings) on sale at the Polish Cultural Center. The following kinds of pierogi will be available: meat, potato & cheese, kraut & mushroom, blueberry and plum. Price per a package of 12 is TBD.

Aug 20 - Sep 23: Garden of Eden exhibition by A. Maciejewski in Portland

Camerawork Gallery in Portland presents an exhibition by Polish-Canadian artist Andrzej Maciejewski. Garden of Eden is a series of still-life photographs of fruits and vegetables inspired by the Old Masters paintings, and illustrating a difference between the stereotype created by our culture and reality created by our civilization. Mr. Maciejewski was educated in Poland and Czechoslovakia and is based in Yarker, ON; he has several photographic projects, exhibits and books to his name.

 

Where: at Camerawork Gallery in Portland, OR; admission free during regular operation hours 9 am -5 pm Monday to Saturday
till Aug 3: Paintings by Izabela Gabrielson at Starbucks in Leschi

Izabela Szczypinska-Gabrielson is a local artist who recently moved to Seattle from the east coast. Her portfolio includes drawing and paintings as well as photographs and book illustrations. Her background includes studies in art history in Lublin, Poland, and in visual design and arts in New York.

August: The Polish Cultural Center closed in August

The Polish Cultural Center in Seattle is closed for a summer break in August. It will open for business as usual, including the restaurant and the bar, on September 9, 2011.
