Tomasz Stanko

T. Stanko and Simple Acoustic Trio

Trumpet virtuoso Tomasz Stanko is one of the best Polish jazzmen around and is very famous in Europe. He played in Seattle in June 2004 and also at the 2002 Earshot Jazz Festival and was called a giant of jazz in the program. His sound evokes Miles Davis and Chet Baker and his music is lyrical and moody. Stanko also credits Krzysztof Komeda as a source of his inspiration; one example is Litania, 1997, set to Komeda's music from Rosemary's Baby by Polanski. Stanko also plays at Blue Monk in Portland, OR, on March 18 and at the Norman Rothstein Theater in Vancouver, BC, on March 20.

Where: the Triple Door, 216 Union St., Seattle, (206) 838-4333; tickets $25; the Theater opens 6 pm, you can dine while listening to the music
