Jan 29, 3 pm: PHA Annual Meeting at the Polish Cultural Center  

This is the annual meeting of the members of the Polish Home Association. It is also an election meeting for the Board of Trustees and the PHA Officer positions. PHA members can vote by proxy, see the Polish Home website for candidate lists, proxy forms and other election info.

Jan 29, 5 pm: Polish Festival 2017 Kick-Off Meeting at the Polish Cultural Center

This is the first planning meeting for the 2017 Polish Festival Seattle. Anyone who is interested in helping with the Festival or working on its planning is invited to join. Learn about the different committees, hear about progress to date, share ideas! This year's focus is on the Upper Silesia (Śląsk) region. The meeting will start with a casual dinner in the downstairs conference room.

Jan 29, 7 pm: Short Film from the 2016 Polish FF Workshop at the NW Film Forum

The Children Film Festival Seattle 2017 presents Fountain of Youth program with animated movies made by children. The program includes Nature vs. Nurture film made in October 2016 during director Joanna Polak's workshop co-hosted by the Seattle Polish Film Festival and the Northwest Film Forum. Jan 28, 1 pm: Daria Kopiec and Short Bobo's Metamorphoses at the NW Film Forum

The Children Film Festival Seattle 2017 presents Polish animator Daria Kopiec and her film Bobo's Metamorphosis - a story of a boy turned into a fly as a punishment for his laziness. This 16:35 min movie is part of the Pure Imagination screening. Another screening of the movie is on Feb 5 (the director will be present only at the Jan 28 screening).

Jan, 27, 6:30 pm: Young Polish Network Anniversary Dinner at the Polish Cultural Center

The Seattle Young Polish Network is celebrating the group's two year anniversary with a dinner at the Polish Home. The SYPN is a social group for Polish-American and international young professionals and adults to build a community, network and share common interest in Polish culture. This is an open meeting for new members but be sure to contact the group about your dinner reservations.

Jan 21, 11 am: Polish Book Club Meeting at the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Powrót niedoskonały by Marcin Bruczkowski, published by Znak in 2013. Mr. Bruczkowski, 51, is an English major graduate who after a decade in Japan and then another in Singapore returned to Poland and parlayed his experience into a bestseller Sleepless in Tokyo in 2004. Powrót is his fifth book, looking satirically at Polish society through a far east eyes. This is an open meeting, drop by even if you haven't read the book.

Jan 20, 7:30 pm: Documentary Santa Rosa Odyssey at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish Film Club KINO OKO presents the 2012 documentary Santa Rosa. Odyssey in the Rhythm of Mariachi directed by Sławomir Grünberg. The film relates a story of over 1400 Polish refugees freed from the WWII Soviet camps, including hundreds of orphans, who found a friendly home in Santa Rosa, Mexico from 1943 to 1946. Mr. Grünberg also directed Karski and the Lords of Humanity.

Evening schedule: 7:30 pm setup & film intro, 8:00 pm screening

Jan 11, 7:30 pm: Louis Lortie in Chopin Concert at the Meany Theater

Louis Lortie

The UW Meany Center for the Performing Arts presents a Chopin concert with pianist Louis Lortie. Mr. Lortie is a French-Canadian who attracted critical acclaim in Asia, Europe and the United States. His program in Seattle includes Frederic Chopin's Etudes op.10 and op.25 and Preludes op.28.

Jan 8, 2:30 pm: Christmas Caroling & Wafer Sharing at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish Home invites everybody to a traditional wafer & good-will sharing (Oplatek). This is an open event - everybody is welcome to come and sing Polish and American carols along. The Polish Choir Vivat Musica will help with caroling. There will also be a children drawing competition under the title Christmas Eve at My Home. Everybody's invited!.

 

Where: Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski in Seattle; admission free - please bring a salad, pastry or a cake to share if you can.

Till Jan 1: Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski Closed for Christmas 

The Polish Cultural Center restaurant will be closed for Christmas from December 25, 2016 till January 1, 2017. It will reopen as usual on Friday, January 6, 2017.
