April 29, 8 pm: Play Opowieści Poli Negri in Portland

The Polish Salon of Poetry, Music and Theatre of Toronto presents a play in Polish Opowieści Poli Negri written and directed by Kazimierz Braun and starring Maria Nowotarska and Agata Pilitowska. The play is about the famous star of the silent movie era who was Polish. Mr. Braun is a writer, playwright, director and a university professor based in Buffalo, NY.

Karol Szymanowski

The Seattle Symphony presents Piotr Tchaikovsky's Romeo & Juliet in a concert that also includes Karol Szymanowski's Symphony no.3 Song of the Night, as well as Felix Mendelssohn's  A Midsummer Night's Dream and Bejamin Britten's Nocturne with Mark Padmore (tenor) and the Seattle Symphony Chorale under direction of Lodovic Morlot..

Apr 23, from 11 am: Crown the Eagle Festival in Portland

The McMenamins White Eagle Saloon in Portland presents Crown the Eagle Festival -  a Polish Heritage Party. The program includes a history talk, folish food, vodka tasting, live performances by Chervona band and other groups, etc. The schedule includes Polish School students performance at 12:30 pm, presentation on Polish History & Cultural Traditions at 2:30 pm and Agnieszka Laska Dancers at 4 pm.

Apr 22, 7:30 pm: Movie Papusza at the Polish Cultural Center

Papusza

The Polish Film Club KINO OKO presents a biographical movie Papusza directed by Joanna Kos-Krauze and Krzysztof Krauze with music by Jan Kanty Pawluskiewicz. This 2013 movie is about the famous poetess Bronislawa Wajs (1910-1987), known as Papusza, who was a Polish Roma. Born a nomad, she become literate and recognized by the Polish literary world, but ostracized in her Roma community.

Evening schedule: 7:30 pm setup & film intro, 8:00 pm screening.

Apr 17, 2 pm: Young Polanie at the Seattle International Children's Friendship Festival

YP at the 2015 Festival

The Young Polanie ensemble will be presenting a medley of Polish traditional songs and dances at the Seattle International Children's Friendship Festival. The SICFF features performances by the children highlighting different ethnic heritages. Also, all children are invited to visit the Polish booth with an interactive cultural  display about Poland on both days of the Festival, April 17 & 18 from 11 am to 5 pm.

Apr 17, 4:30 pm: Borderline: Kantor's Dead Class Revisited at the Polish Cultural Center

Kogut Butoh artists

The Polish Salon of Poetry in Seattle and Kogut Butoh present evening of poetry and performance with the play Borderline: Kantor's Dead Class Revisited, directed by Joan Laage and staged with five other artists. The Dead Class is a famous play by Tadeusz Kantor (1915-1990), Polish playwright and director renown for his ascetic performances. Ms. Laage is known in Seattle for her dance performances based on the Butoh style; she also trained in Cracow. The program includes a book exhibit and video clips about Kantor.

Apr 16, 11 am: Polish Book Club Meeting at the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Angole by Ewa Winnicka, published by Czarne in 2015. Ms. Winnickai, 38, is a reporter for the Polityka weekly with interest in Polish emigration and immigration; besides books she also writes documentary movie scripts. Angole is a collection of interviews with Poles living in Great Britain - why they came, why they stay, how they are doing. The book was a finalist to the 2015 Nike  award in Poland. This is an open meeting, drop by even if you haven't read the book.

Apr 16, 7 pm: Stan Borys in Concert at the Polish Cultural Center

Stan Borys

Mr. Stan Borys, the Polish rock legend, known for hits such as Jaskółka uwięziona and Spacer dziką plażą returns to Seattle with his new songs. The program includes songs from his last CD Niczyj and also from 2014 CD Ikona as well as his well known and loved classics. The restaurant and the bar will be open from 5:30 pm.

Stan Borys will also give a concert at the Polish Hall in Portland on April 9.

Apr 16, 7:30 pm: The 1050 Anniversary of the Baptism of Poland in Portland

Mieszko I by J. Matejko

The baptism of Duke Mesco / Mieszko I in 966 is the traditional date that starts Poland's history. By accepting Christianity for himself, his court and his country, the Duke put Poland among recognized European nations. The celebration program includes performances by pianist Jennifer Wright, by the Agnieszka Laska Dancers and by the students of the Polish School in Portland.

Apr 13, 7:30 am - 10 am: Poland - Washington Aerospace Industry at  the World Trade Center

Polish American Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest and Trade Development Alliance of Greater Seattle present a breakfast seminar Poland - Washington State Trade Opportunities in the Aerospace Industry. The Polish delegation includes Messrs M. Bujny, Vice President of The Aviation Valley in Poland, M. Ustrobiński, Dep. Mayor, City of Rzeszów and Consul General M. Brymora. State of Washington hosts include Seattle Mayor E. Murrey, B Uptagrafft, CEO of Pacific Northwest Aerospace Alliance and Lt. Governor B. Owens.

Apr 12, 7 pm: Consul General Honors Mr. Ireneusz Prędki at the Polish Cultural Center

Ireneusz Predki

Consul General Mariusz Brymora will decorate Mr. Ireneusz Prędki with the Knight’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta in recognition of his contributions to the democratic changes in Poland during the Solidarity movement. Mr. Prędki, a textile engineer from Opoczno, was the Solidarity leader of the Ziemia Piotrkowska Province in 1980-1981. This honor has been bestowed by the President of Poland. Congratulations!

Apr 12, 7:30 pm: Open Meeting w/ Consul General and Guests  at the Polish Cultural Center

Mariusz Brymora

This is an open meeting providing an opportunity for discussions with Consul General Mariusz Brymora as well as members of the Polish aerospace industry delegation from the Podkarpackie Province to the Washington State during their visit to Seattle. The delegation from Poland includes Mr. Marek Bujny, Vice President of The Aviation Valley in Poland and Mr. Marek Ustrobiński, Deputy Mayor of City of Rzeszów.

Apr 12, 8 pm: Piotr Rubik in Concert in Tacoma

Piotr Rubik

Piotr Rubik is  an acclaimed Polish composer, cellist and pianist who raised to a star status in Poland due to his very popular Santo Subito concerts about St. John Paul II; one of these concerts was  presented in Seattle in 2010. This time he comes to Tacoma with a program called My Story that includes performances by soloists M. Gasz, M. Moszczynska, M. Januszkiewicz and A. Przekupien.

Apr 10, 12 pm - 4 pm: Costume Party For Children at the Polish Cultural Center

The Juliusz Slowacki Polish School in Seattle invites all children, parents, families and friends to a children's costume party. In the program: singing, dancing, games with prizes, costume competition with awards and a lot of fun! The main attraction this year is Magic Show & Magic Workshop by Philip and Henry Amazing Magicians from 2:15 to 3;15. Also available homemade delicious dinner and desserts.

April 10, at 3:25 pm: Documentary Raise the Roof  by Y. Wolinski at SJFF

2016 Seattle Jewish Film Festival presents documentary Raise The Roof directed by Yari Wolinsky. The film chronicles the effort of an international team of experts to reconstruct the roof and the magnificent ceiling paintings of an 18c wooden synagogue in Gwoździec (now Hvizdec near Kolomyya in Ukraine). The Gwoździec roof is the centerpiece of the POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews in Warsaw.

Apr 7, 7:30 pm: M. Pączkowski in Music of Today: DXArts at Meany Theater

M. Pączkowski

The UW School of Music and the Meany Theater present the spring concert in the Music of Today: DXArts series featuring ground breaking works of music and digital arts by visiting artists. The program includes ambisonic works by Oscar Pablo Di Lascia, Natasha Barret, Marcin Pączkowski and Juan Pampin. Mr. Pączkowski is a graduate student at the UW School of Music and a graduate of the Academy of Music in Cracow, Poland.

Apr 3, 2:30 pm: Easter Egg Sharing & Egg Hunt at the Polish Cultural Center

A traditional meeting of members & friends of the Polish Home with sharing of the Easter eggs and a dinner. The program includes an Easter Egg Hunt so come with your children to have some Easter fun. Polish Home Assn. provides most of the food such as cold meat cuts, but please bring a salad or pastry to share

The Polish Home Assn. presents Krzysztof Kaminski in a monodrama Milość jest najważniejsza, with poems by Karol Wojtyla and music by Michal Lorenc. Mr. Kaminski is a theatre, film & TV actor known for performances as well as CDs presenting Polish poetry. CD with Milosc jest najwazniejsza will be available.

Apr 2, 6 pm: Kaminska & Bowlby in Romantic Repertoire Concert in Bellevue

Kaminska &  Bowlby

In a special recital event following the 2016 Virtuoso Festival, pianist Ivona Kaminska & Christopher Bowlby will perform a concert of romantic music. The program includes solo works such as Liszt's Mephisto Waltz No. 1, Liszt's transcription of Schumann's Widmung, Ravel's La valse, Chopin's Ballade No. 1 in G minor, as well as Poulenc's Sonata for 4-hands. This is the last concert of the 2015-2016 KB Piano Series.

Apr 1, 2 & 3: Dance Theatre Performance Bieguni in Portland

The Agnieszka Laska Dancers present Bieguni (The Runners) - a dance theatre performance inspired by Olga Tokarczuk's novel of the same title with music by Jack Gabel, Frederic Chopin and Slavic religious chants and projections of haunting images from paintings by Polish artist Zdzisław Beksiński. The Runners is a Russian Orthodox sect believing that only people in continual motion can save the world.
