The Portland
State University presents a piano concert by Rafal Blechacz. Mr.
Blechacz
is the winner of the 2005 International Chopin
Competition in Warsaw, where he dominated
the competitors completely by winning the main award as well as
all the special prizes for best concerto, best sonata, best
polonaise & best mazurka.

The book for the meeting is Nielegalni by
Vincent Severski,
published by Wyd. Czarna Owca in 2011. Nielegalni is a
gripping spy novel set in current Poland, Sweden, Russia &
Ukraine with some historical events and characters included in
the plot.
Severski is apparently a nom-de-plume of a very successful and
now retired Polish counter-intelligence officer and spy.
According to Wikipedia, among his military decorations is Legion of Merit awarded by President Obama.

Aleksandra Mizielinska & Daniel Mizielinski are Polish authors &
illustrators, who have won numerous international awards for
their funny and intelligent books for children. Amazon has about
20 of their amazing books available in English, Polish, French
etc. including H.O.U.S.E, Maps, and Welcome to
Momoko. They are
both graduates of the Book Design Studio at the Warsaw Academy
of Fine Arts.

The local Polish Scout / ZHP Troop Kaszuby invites
everybody interested in scouting to the first meeting of the new
season. Children from 4 to 18 can sign up; the meetings are at
the Polish Cultural Center. The scouts organize camps and trips
and provide another excellent way for children to learn Polish
culture and traditions.

Sep 21-22: 20th Polish Festival in
Portland |

At two full days of attractions, it's the
biggest and the
most
colorful Polish
Festival in the
western
United States. Each year the Festival features
exhibitions, jazz or piano concerts plus the two full days of performances by the best Polish folk groups
from the west coast US and Canada,
variety of merchandize and tons of pierogi & other Polish food as well as Polish beer. There are
also polka contests on both days and dancing on the Saturday evening.
This year again, the
Festival and the Polish community have been honored by the
Oregon Governor, John Kitzhaber, with a
Proclamation of Oregon Polish Culture Weekend over Sep
21-22, 2013. Congratulations!

The Consulate General of the Republic
of Poland in Los Angeles kindly informs that a consular outreach visit
to Portland to process passport applications for Polish citizens is scheduled for Sep 10, 2013. The visit is
coordinated by Ms. Monica Sobolewski and Mr. Roman Sobolewski who
also provide
detailed info to people who sign up. The Consul is available
from 9 am to 5 pm; reservations are required to see the
Consul.
A consular outreach visit to
Seattle is not expected before March of 2014.

Festival at the Polish Parish in Tacoma |

Fr. Eugeniusz Bolda and SS. Peter and Paul Parish in Tacoma
invite everybody to a Polish harvest festival. The program
follows the mass of Thanksgiving at 10 am and includes
traditional Polish food, beer, music, souvenirs, games for

Fr. Jan Twardowski Polish
School in Bellevue invites children from the Eastside as well as
Seattle. The School
is separate from the Polish School in Seattle. Subjects
include Polish language, geography, history and culture classes
offered to children from grades K (zerowka) to 8, based on proficiency in
Polish. The School also has a program of Polish as a second
language for children. All classes are on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm. The first
day of school is Sep 11, 2013.
