Jan 29, 1 - 4 pm: Carnival Party for Kids at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish School in Seattle invites every kid around to a traditional carnival party for children from 1 pm till 4 pm. It will feature games and competitions with awards, dancing & signing and a raffle. There will also be a dinner and desserts available at very reasonable prices! All the proceeds go to the benefit of the Polish School in Seattle.

Jan 28, 11 am: Polish Book Club Meeting at  the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Milosc po polsku by Manuela Gretkowska published by Swiat Ksiazki in 2010. Gretkowska, 46, is a contemporary writer, screenwriter and women lib activist in Poland with a background in psychology. The book is a novel about a Polish man and his marriage to a Swedish woman and his relations with her, his Swedish kids, and other women, but it also openly dispenses a marriage advice to the readers. Club meetings are in Polish.

Jan 28, 3 pm: PHA Annual Meeting at the Polish Cultural Center  

This is the annual meeting of the members of the Polish Home Association. It is also an election meeting for the Board of Trustees and the PHA Officer positions. PHA members can vote by proxy, see the Polish Home website for candidate lists, proxy forms and other election info. Deadline for candidates wis TBD.

Polish American Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest invites everybody to an early breakfast presentation Poland: A New Growth Pole in Europe by Dr. Henryka Bochniarz. Ms. Bochniarz is the President of Polish Confederation of Private Employers Leviatan, a Vice-President of BUSINESSEUROPE and the President of Boeing Central & Eastern Europe. Registration & networking from 7 am, the presentation starts at 7:30 am.

Jan 11, 7:30 pm: Lecture on Milosz and American Poets at the UW

Robert Faggen

UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee invites to a lecture Milosz and the American Poets He Loved ... and Hated by Prof. Robert Faggen. Dr. Faggen is a Professor of Literature at the Claremont-McKenna College, Claremont, CA and a founder of the Milosz Archive and Institute at the College. Among the poets Milosz was particularly interested in were R. Jeffers, R. Frost, R. Lowell, T. Merton, and A. Ginsberg.

Jan 8, 2:30 pm: Christmas Wafer Sharing and Carols at the Polish Cultural Center

This event is the traditional wafer sharing (Oplatek) for members and friends of the Polish Home with Fr. Stanislaw Michalek. The Polish Choir Vivat Musica will help with caroling and everybody is invited to come and sing Polish and American carols along.

Jan 8, from 3 pm: Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity in Vancouver, BC

The heartwarming phenomenon of Jerzy Owsiak's Wielka Orkiestra Swiatecznej Pomocy reached Vancouver, BC this year. The program includes a screening of the movie The Woodstock Stop / Przystanek Woodstock, live concert with several groups and performers, lottery and more. In co-operation with the Polish Consulate General in Vancouver, BC; all proceeds and donations go of course to The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation.

Jan 6 & 7: Maria Knapik in Concert in Portland, OR & Vancouver, BC

The Stage Jotka Format Theatre from Vancouver, BC presents soprano Maria Knapik in a special New Year's Concert. The program includes Polish & English carols as well as seven songs by Frederic Chopin and some famous arias. The concert is mc-ed by Karolina Francis and Marek Lipnicki. Teatr Osobny Malych Form - Jotka. opened last year in Vancouver, BC under directorship of Jerzy Kopczewski.
