According to the old Polish tradition,
Andrzejki (a party on St.
Andrew’s night, Nov 30) was the last big party of the year, with
some special customs such as divining future from pouring hot
wax on water. Music by The Dogtones, with additional entertainment
during intermissions. Doors open at 6 pm with dinner available
at the Polish Home restaurant downstairs till 10 pm, bar opens at 7:30 pm, dancing
from 9 pm to 1 am. New this year: baby sitting service
at the conference room from 7 pm to midnight.

The book for the meeting is Kontrkultura. Co nam z
tamtych lat? by Wojciech Burszta (red.), Mariusz Czuba &
Marcin Rychlewski published by SWPS Academica Literackie in 2005.
This is a book of essays about phenomenon of counterculture in
Polish society from after WWII till current time.
The essays are available from club members.
Club meetings are in Polish.

The Polish Home Cabaret To i Owo invites to a program in
Polish called A moze by tak jescze raz. This is a special
program prepared by the Cabaret under the direction of Barbara
Strutynski for the 30 years anniversary of the Cabaret. Everybody is invited to a great evening!
The restaurant and the bar will be open for the occasion from 5:30 pm.

The Tacoma Youth Symphony Assn. presents a Tacoma Young Artists
Concert that includes: Leonore Overture by
Ludwig van Beethoven, Legende for Violin and Orchestra op
17 and Polonaise Brillante no 2 by Henryk Wieniawski, as
well as Czech Suite op 39 and Hungarian Dance op
46 by Antonin Dworzak. Wieniawski (1835-1880) was a virtuoso
violin player and a composer of some of the most important works
for violin repertoire.

Society Pro Arte - Popular Theatre in Vancouver, BC
invites to a spectacle of two one-act plays by Slawomir Mrozek,
Na pelnym morzu and Czarowna Noc (in Polish w/
English subtitles). Mrozek, 81, is a writer and playwright
famous for his use of absurd and satire applied to serious
topics both in plays and in short stories & novels. Directed by
Marek Czuma.

Exhibition at the University
of Washington |

This exhibit celebrates the Year of Maria Sklodowska-Curie at
the University of Washington. Marie Curie, nee Maria Sklodowska,
was a pioneer researcher in radioactivity and chemistry,
discoverer of elements polonium and radium and the only person
who received the Nobel price twice, in 1903 and 1911. The
exhibition is sponsored by the Consulate General of Poland in
Los Angeles, the Consulate General of France in Los Angeles and
UW PSEC.
Please note: the end date has changed, the exhibit will be taken
down late afternoon on Dec 9.

presentation The Polish Presidency of the European Union,

Pisarki is a career diplomat specializing in Polish-American
relationship as well as an author publishing on US-Polish
relationships and Polish-Jewish topics. Organized by the UW PSEC
and sponsored by the UW Ellison Center and the Center of West
European Studies.

Nov 13, 2:30 pm: Poland’s Independence Day
Celebration in Seattle |

Poland
was reborn as a country on Nov 11, 1918, when Jozef Pilsudski
became the Head of State after a popular revolt liberated the
Polish territories. To commemorate that event, there will be a
mass for Poland at the Polish Church in Seattle at noon and a
celebration at the Polish Cultural Center at 2:30 pm. The
celebration at the PCC include a program prepared by the children from
the Polish Scouts troop Kaszuby. The restaurant will be open from 1 pm to
4 pm as usual.

International Piano Festival invites to Dance and Elegance
- a Bach and Schumann concert by
local artists pianist Ivona Kaminska and violinist Miodrag
Veselinovic.
The program includes Sonata for violin & keyboard BWV 1017 and
violin Partita no 3 BWV by Bach and Carnival op. 9
by Schuman.
Both Dr. Kaminska and Mr. Veselinovic are on the faculty of the
Chopin Academy of Music in Issaquah and regularly give concerts
together.

The Polish
Cultural Center presents Ewa Kasprzyk in a monodrama adapted for
theatre from Pedro Amlodovar's short story Patty Diphusa.
Ms. Kasprzyk is a very popular Polish actress, known both from a
top sitcom Zlotopolscy and from her film roles. Among
others, for her role in Bellissima, she won the best
actress award at the 2001 PFF in Gdynia. Ms. Kasprzyk is in town
as a guest of the Seattle Polish Film Festival. This program is
in Polish.

The biggest
Polish
event in Seattle, the fall bazaar features booths with Polish books
and CDs, crafts, pottery, crystal, amber etc.
as well as booths by local Polish-American organizations. Polish
Choir Vivat Musica performs on Saturday at 2:30 pm. You can buy Christmas ornaments and wafers
(oplatki), Polish pierogi, home made cakes and
enjoy a full course
dinner.
Also, frozen pierogi from Chicago to go.
Organized by the Ladies Auxiliary.
