Polish Bazaar

Mar 27, noon - 7 pm: Spring Bazaar at the Polish Home

The Spring Bazaar is an annual event organized by the Ladies Auxiliary. The booths upstairs offer Polish crystal bowl and vases, amber and silver jewelry, pottery, crafts, books, Easter eggs and much more. Downstairs you can enjoy traditional Polish dishes served by the young waiters clad in Polish folk costumes. You can also buy home-made desserts and pastries. This is usually a crowded event, so come early.
 

The Bazaar looks for volunteers to help set it up on Friday March 26, 2010 from 8 pm and on Saturday morning. If you would like to help, please contact Piotr & Marija Horoszowski.

Mar 27, 11 am: Polish Book Club meeting at  the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Wtajemniczenia by Michal Komar published by Wyd. Swiat Ksiazki in 2009. The book is an extravagant exercise of intellectual discourse about literature, philosophy and art mixed with a gourmand's comments on fine food and wines. Komar is a literary critic. The book is available on the Internet or from Club members. Club meetings are in Polish.

Mar 21,  4 pm: Music by Frederic Chopin at the Polish Home

Frederic Chopin

Marzena Lilian Szlaga Piano Studio invites to a yearly piano recital celebrating music by Frederic Chopin as well as the 200th birthday anniversary of the master. Ms Szlaga will open the concert with the Ballad in G-Minor. The program includes mazurkas, nocturnes, preludes, polonaises, waltzes and etudes by Chopin performed by the Studio students.

Mar 17,  7:30 pm: Cabaret Kopydlowo in Spotkanie z Ballada cancelled

This show has been cancelled as the artists were stopped at the US border.

Mar 12,  8 pm: Movie about Chopin Impromptu in Portland

This 1991 American movie directed by James Lapine stars Hugh Grant as Chopin and Judy Davis as George Sand. The event is organized by the Polish Library in Portland as part of the celebrations for Chopin's 200th anniversary.

Mar 7, 3 pm: Book signing & presentation on Polish pioneers at the Polish Home

Polish Home Foundation invites to a book promotion and a historical presentation on Polish pioneers from Pe Ell, WA, by Leo Kowalski. Mr. Kowalski, a Pe Ell native living in California, is an author of two recent books on Polish roots of the Pe Ell community: Pe Ell's Polish Pioneers and Pe Ell's Polish Heritage.

Mar 7, 8 pm: Basia Bulat at Tractor Tavern in Seattle

Basia Bulat

Basia Bulat is a Canadian pop singer and songwriter who returns to Seattle after her successful debut at the Triple Door in 2008. The program includes songs from her new album Heart Of My Own. The show at Tractor Tavern is a double ticket with the group Ivan & Alyosha and singer Haley Bonar also performing.

Mar 5, 7:30 pm: Lecture on global crisis and Central Europe  at the UW

Marek Belka

UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee invites to a lecture by prof. Belka on The Central European Dimension of the Global Economic Crisis: Prospects for Recovery. Dr. Belka is the Director of the International Monetary Fund’s European Department. He served as the Minister of Finance and as the Prime Minister of Poland and Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe.

Mar 5,  8 pm: Movie Chopin: Desire for Love in Portland

This 2002 Polish movie, by an Oscar nominated director Jerzy Antczak, focuses on Chopin’s complicated relationship with George Sand and her daughter. The event is organized by the Polish Library in Portland as part of the celebrations for Chopin's 200th anniversary.
