biography of Thaddeus Kosciuszko by a Pulitzer winner Alex
Storozynski. The Peasant Prince, Thaddeus Kosciuszko and the
Age of Revolution covers Kosciuszko's exploits both as an
American & a Polish hero.

Music piano concert in Bellevue |

Honor students and the faculty of the Chopin Academy of Music in
Issaquah give two concerts at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.
Program features compositions from Bach to Chopin to modern
African composers. Chopin Academy
of Music was founded by Dr. Ivona Kaminska-Bowlby (artistic
director) and Christopher Bowlby (program director) and has a
faculty of 11 music teachers.

Lithuanian community invites to the Lithuanian Heritage Day
Celebration in Roslyn, WA. The
celebration program starts with commemorations at the
Lithuanian and Polish-Lithuanian cemeteries in Roslyn and
includes a short history of Polish-Lithuanian relations over
centuries as well as a dinner and singing & dancing.

2009 Seattle International Film
Festival features two Polish movies: Scratch and
33 Scenes from Life. Scratch /
Rysa (2008, 89 min), directed by Michal Rosa is a drama
showing how the past involvement with communist secret police
can erode and destroy a marriage 40 years later.

historical election in Poland brought power to Solidarity and
ended communism; changes in other countries of Central Europe
quickly followed. UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee invites
to a lecture by Prof. Zbigniew Bochniarz Commemorating the
Polish Elections of June 1989 - A Retrospective with Video,
Discussion and Remembrances.
Prof. Bochniarz is a Visiting Professor at the UW Evans School
of Public Affairs. Organized by UW PSEC & REECAS.

and Scratch. 33 Scenes from Life /
33 sceny z zycia (2008, 95 min), directed by Malgorzata
Szumowska is a poetic parable of modern life shown through 33
snapshots from the life of an artist photographer.

June 1-30: K. Pawluskiewicz
exhibit at the
Convention Center |

Local
artist Kate (Kasia) Pawluskiewicz presents a series of paintings
at
Sense Salon on the main floor of
the Convention Center in downtown Seattle. The series is called
Everlasting Moments and Calm. The paintings will be up
for the duration of June.
