Viva Polonia Ball

Feb 25,  8 pm: Highlander Group Krywan & Masztalski Cabaret at the PH

The Polish Home invites to a double bill entertainment evening. The program includes a concert by the Polish Highlander Group Krywan and the Masztalski Cabaret. Krywan, Slov. Krivan, is a majestic peak in the Slovak Tatra Mountains; the group includes six people. The Masztalski Cabaret is a two person cabaret troupe hailing from Silesia. In Polish & Tatra highlander dialect.

Feb 23, 10 am: Polish Book Club meeting at the Green Lake Library

The book for the meeting is Don Juan raz jeszcze by Andrzej Bart published by Wyd. Literackie in 2006. The novel presents a new take on Don Juan's myth and is based on a true story of the 16c. Spanish Queen Joanna of Castille and her dead husband Philip. The book has won a 2007 Nike nomination. It can be bought on the Internet or borrowed from Club members. The event is not sponsored by the Seattle Public Library.

Feb 22, 5 pm: Russia-Poland. New Gaze film documentaries at the UW

This movie evening features a program of short documentary films created when students of Polish and Russian film schools traded places. The result is a dual view of Russia in the eyes of Poles and Poland in the eyes of Russians. Organized by the Polish Cultural Institute and the Slavic Dept. of the University of Washington in Seattle.

Feb 14, 16 & 17: Movie Saviour's Square at PIFF in Portland

The only Polish entry during 2008 Portland International Film Festival, Saviour's Square has been showered with Polish and international awards. This 2006 movie has been directed by Krzysztof Krauze and Joanna Kos-Krauze.

Feb 16, from 6 pm, Viva Polonia Ball in Mountlake Terrace

This is a formal black tie dinner and dance evening for the benefit of the Polish Studies at the University of Washington. Beautiful music provided by Bert Carlson and Company. Cocktail Hour 6-7 pm, sit-down dinner at 7 pm, dancing from 8 pm. Organized by Janusz Zoltowski & Viva Polonia Cultural Assn and the Friends of Polish Studies.

Feb 13, 7:30 pm: Basia Bulat sings at the Triple Door

Basia Bulat

Basia Bulat is an indie pop singer and songwriter hailing from Toronto & Montreal. She became quite popular in Canada and Europe and now is doing an American tour. She has local fans here who say it should be an interesting concert.

Feb 8-14: Movie Summer Love by Uklanski at Grand Illusion

Summer Love (2006), written and directed by Piotr Uklanski, is an allegoric tale styled as a western. Told in a highly visual style, the movie recounts a tale of love, pain, redemption and death and relies less on dialogue than upon fast paced, meticulously composed images.

Feb 10, 3 pm: I. Kaminska in Masterworks by Liszt  & Schuman in Shoreline

Ivona Kaminska

Passion and Poetry: Masterworks by Liszt and Schuman is a piano concert devoted to the two romantic giants. Local pianists and faculty teachers Ivona Kaminska and Dainius Vaicekonis will play in the program that includes Robert Schumann's Carnaval and Liszt's Un Sospiro, Transcendental Etude No.10 and the Transcription of Rigoletto. The concert benefits the Shoreline Piano Scholarship Fund.

Feb 2,  7:30 pm: 2008 Carnival Mask Ball at the Polish Home

The Polish Home invites everybody to a mask ball. There will be awards for the best female costume and the best male costume of the evening. Music by a DJ. The bar and the buffet will be opened.
