Sep 30, 1:30 pm: Luncheon and auction for the Polish School

The Juliusz Slowacki Polish School in Seattle invites to a luncheon and mini-auction for the benefit of the School. All proceeds benefit the Polish School in Seattle.

Sep 29-30: 14th Polish Festival in Portland

If you haven't seen it - go for it! It's the biggest and the best Polish Festival in the western United States. This year the Festival features an exhibition, a live demonstration of a Polish Winged Hussar plus the usual two full days of performances by folk groups, including two from Canada and one from Poland, variety of merchandize and tons of pierogi and other Polish food as well as Polish beer. There are also polka contests on both days and dancing on the Saturday evening. Special guest of the Festival, Consul for the Cultural Affairs, Ms. Paulina Kapuscinska answers questions at the Library from 1 to 3 pm on Saturday.

Sep 29, 5 pm: 100th Anniversary of the PNA Lodge in Aberdeen

PNA est. 1880

The Polish National Alliance Lodge #852 celebrates its 100th Anniversary with a special evening at the Polish Club in Aberdeen. The program includes violin performance by Natalia and Luiza Hicker. Polish dinner with barszcz, pierogi etc. will be served.

Sep 29, 10 am: Polish Book Club meeting at Eastlake

The book for the meeting is Rynek w Smyrnie by Jacek Dehnel published by WAB in 2007. Dehnel, 27, is already an accomplished writer, poet, painter and TV personality; his work won such prestigious awards as the Koscielskis' (2005) and the Polityka Paszport (2006). Rynek is a set of 6 short stories with fluid narrative and surprising turns. The book can be bought on the Internet or borrowed from Club members.

 

Where: at a private residence in Seattle (Eastlake). As a bonus, the meeting includes a chance of viewing (or buying) oil paintings by Joanna Brzostowska. For more info please contact Hanna Gil.; admission free

Sep 21-25: Polish Choir Cantate Deo in Seattle, Tacoma and the Puget Sound

Cantate Deo

Cantate Deo is a men's and boys' choir from the Cathedral in Kolobrzeg, one of the eldest bishoprics in Poland (established in 1000). The Choir comes with 16 members under direction of Prof. Przemyslaw Palka. This is the concert schedule for the Puget Sound region:

Sep 23, 11 am: La Boheme by Trelinski in live broadcast at the UW

Mariusz Trelinski

This innovative version of Puccini's opera La Boheme has been directed by Mariusz Trelinski and comes to the Washington National Opera in Washington, DC, from the Grand Theatre - National Opera in Warsaw. The opera will be simulcast live to many sites, one of them being at the University of Washington in Seattle. Trelinski's directing of operas has been called a phenomenon; La Boheme earned rave reviews.

Sep 22, 7:30 pm: Concert and Disco at the Polish Home

The Polish Home and the Polish Choir Vivat Musica invite to a disco welcoming the Polish Choir Cantate Deo with the DJ Filip form Portland. The Choir will give concert first, the the disco will start. The restaurant and bar will be open at 7 pm. You need to be 21+ to attend.

Sep 15, 7:30 pm: Ewa Kuklinska in concert at the Polish Home

Ewa Kuklinska

Ewa Kuklinska is a multi-talented singer and dancer from Poland. She was also an actress of the Syrena Theatre in Warsaw and played in several feature movies and multiple TV productions. Ms. Kuklinska comes to Seattle from Portland where she is on vacation and gives another concert on September 7, 2006. The restaurant will open from 5 pm

Sep 5 & 12, 6 pm: Back to school at the Polish School in Bellevue

Fr. Jan Twardowski Polish School in Bellevue invites to an open house for anybody who wants to meet the teachers or enroll their children. The School is separate from the Polish School in Seattle. The curriculum includes Polish language, geography, history and culture classes offered to children from grades 1 to 8, based on proficiency in Polish. Additionally, the School teaches Polish as a second language for children. All classes are held on Wednesdays at 6:00 pm at the St. Louise Parish School in Bellevue. The first day of school is September 12, 2007.

Sep 8 & 10: Back to school at the Polish School in Seattle

This year, the Juliusz Slowacki Polish School in Seattle offers a choice of classes on Saturdays or Mondays. The School is open to individuals of all ages and varying degrees of language skills. Children from grades 1-8 learn Polish language and literature, as well history and geography of Poland (assignment is based on the proficiency level in Polish). Adults can learn Polish as a second language at  a beginners and intermediate levels. All classes are held at the Polish Home in Seattle. The first day of school is September 8 for the Saturday classes and September 10 for the Monday classes.

Sep 9, 2 pm: Polish Harvest Festival / Dozynki in Vancouver, BC

The Zgoda Polish Friendship Society from Vancouver, BC invites to the traditional Polish Harvest Festival (Dozynki). Program on Sunday, September 9 includes performances by several folk groups. Full program spans from September 6 to 9 and includes also tournaments in soccer, table tennis, bridge & poker, a Biesiada concert (see a separate note) and a disco.

Sep 8, 7:30 pm: Biesiada: a merry sing-along in Vancouver, BC

Vivat Musica

The Vivat Musica Choir from Seattle spreads the merriment to British Columbia. A joyful evening with music, good food and wine is a tradition going back millennia. The  audience is invited to sing along merrily with the members of the Choir in the program full of traditional Polish songs that everybody loves.

Ewa Kuklinska is a multi-talented singer and dancer from Poland. She was also an actress of the Syrena Theatre in Warsaw and played in several feature movies and multiple TV productions.  Ms. Kuklinska is in Portland on her vacation but agreed to give a concert as well.

Sep 7: The Polish Home reopens after the summer

After being closed for the summer 2007, the first day of regular business with the restaurant and the bar open is September 7, 2007.
