Poland. She held such positions
as Minister of Industry and Trade (1991), President of the Polish
Businessmen Council (1996-99) and President of the Polish
Confederation of Private Employers (1996-current); she also ran as
a candidate in the Polish presidential elections. Her lecture

choral ensemble invites to a concert filled with music from
Eastern and Central Europe, including
Poland, Hungary,
Czech Rep., the Balkans, Greece,
Ukraine
and Russia as
well as Armenia,
Georgia
and Lebanon.
Polish music is represented by two works by one of the most
distinguished contemporary composers, Henryk Gorecki:
the Third Symphony (of
Sorrowful Songs), influenced by the Tatra Mountains
folk music and the hymn to the Virgin Mary,
Totus Tuus, written
for John Paul II’s visit to Poland in 1987.

Poznanski collection gouaches at the Seattle Pacific University |
Zhang Collection- Early Night |
Joanna and
Kazimierz Poznanski, local collectors of modernist Chinese
paintings, present another exhibition of western-style 20c.
Chinese art from their collection. On display at the SPU Art
Center Gallery there are over 30 gouaches, mostly from 1940-1960,
executed by Sichuan painters Li Youxing, Zhang Yangjun and Qian
Laizhong. The exhibition is available from Feb 27 till March 28,
2006. The opening reception is on March 2 from 6 to 8 pm.
