This meeting
will focus on the parking lot changes and bids on work tasks
related to these changes. Polish Home Building Commission &
Fundraising Committee invite everybody interested in the PH
expansion project to its monthly meeting at the Polish Home. All
interested in the details of the project as well as volunteers are
welcome! (This meeting has
been moved from the previous week).

P. Klindienst reads at Elliott Bay Book Store
Patricia
Klindienst is a local author that will be reading from her book The Earth Knows My Name; Culture
and Sustainability in the Gardens of Ethnic Americans.
The book features a whole chapter on Gerard Bentryn, the owner of
the Bainbridge Vineyards and Winery, and his Polish roots.

The movie based
on life and art of the primitive painter, artist and hobo Nikifor
(born Epifan Drowniak), won several 2005 Eagle awards; among
others, the best actress award was won by Krystyna Feldman
(playing male Nikifor). It also won the Crystal Globe at the PFF
in Karlovy Vary,
Czech Republic. My Nikifor / Moj Nikifor
has been directed by Krzysztof Krauze.
The movie based

Polish Book Club meeting at the Green Lake Library in Seattle
The book for
the meeting is Uchodzcy
by Henryk Grynberg, published by Wyd. Swiat Ksiazki in 2004.
Grynberg, 70, is a distinguished novelist, poet, playwright,
essayist and winner of many prestigious literary awards. Uchodzcy is a moving
autobiography highlighting twisted lives of Polish Jews in
Poland and
USA in his terse style. The book
is available on the internet. Please see the club website for more
details.

paintings at the Friedrich Gallery
Touch of Wind, Artur Popek
Artur Popek is
a painter and a graphical artist who made his name with extricate
miniatures and prints that were exhibited in
Seattle at the Polish Film Festival in
2002. He also makes magazine and book illustrations. More recently
his main venue of expression has become painting.
The exhibition is
organized by the Society for Arts and the Friedrich Gallery and
runs till July 30, 2006.

poems and ice cream in
Kirkland
1st
of June is the traditional Children Day in
Poland, full of joy and fun. With
double attractions of all you can eat ice cream and the Lesna Poczta play for
children, this evening surely fits the bill! Lesna Poczta is a
compilation of classic poems for children by such authors as Jan
Brzechwa, Julian Tuwim and Tadeusz Sliwiak, presented by the
children from the
PolishSchool
on the Eastside. The performance has been prepared by the School
and is sponsored by the School and the Society for Polish Culture.
