for the Christmas Eve
The Polish Home is open on Friday, Dec 22.
Come to have an early start on Christmas celebrations with
Polish carols or just for a dinner.
Chef Barbara Patrick
will have these Christmas Eve specials on sale to go: red
borscht, uszka (the special dumplings), along with
pierogi and krokiety (meatrolls).
The Polish Home is closed on
Sunday, Dec 24, 2006, for the Christmas Eve.
The restaurant will also be closed on December 31 due to
preparations for the New Years Eve ball.

Heroes of Solidarity (in Polish)
Part 3 of a program about Solidarity
activists forced to emigrate during the martial law in Poland in
early 1980s. It is homage to all of them and features interviews
with many, including Kazimierz Braun and Krzysztof Kamyszew,
both known locally from their recent visits to Seattle. There
are still about 40 of the Solidarity immigrants in the Puget
Sound area.

Dec 9, from 2 pm:
Polish Choir in concert at MOHAI
The Polish Choir Vivat Musica will take part in the traditional
concert Holidays Around the World. This two day event running
Saturday and Sunday, December 9 & 10, is hosted this year by the
Museum of History
and Industry. The Choir will sing Polish Christmas Carols for
about 20 minutes during the afternoon program on Saturday.
Precise schedule for the Choir performance TBD.

at Jerzy’s Coffee in
Redmond
This is a special Holiday meeting
of the Club. There is no book to be discussed, but according to
the Club tradition everybody coming in should bring one book - in
Polish - wrapped up nicely as a present; then everybody gets a
gift by drawing lots. Sharing a favorite poem, a prose page or joy
of the holiday spirit is encouraged! New members are welcomed.

the Polish Home
This is another Mikolajki
party, this one organized by the Polish Home. The program includes
a performance by the children, singing of Polish carols and a
visit by Santa Claus as an early start of the season
celebrations. The restaurant will be open from 1 pm as is usual
on Sundays.
Dec 2, 6 pm: Nativity play & St. Nicholas party for children in
Kirkland
This is a Mikolajki
party organized by the Fr. Jan Twardowski Polish School in
Bellevue. The program includes Jaselka (a Nativity
based performance by the students of the school), sharing of
Christmas wafers, Santa Claus’s visit with presents, singing of
Polish carols and taking pictures with Santa Claus.

the UW
Prof. Jacek K. Furdyna
Dr. Jacek Furdyna is a physicist from the University of Notre Dame
specializing in condensed matter. His lecture
How the Means Become End in Scientific Discovery: the Impact of
Unintended Consequences will focus
on drive-by-discovering: breakthroughs in technology and science
that arise from the surprising and unanticipated effects of
scientific experiments and research of other subjects. The lecture
is organized by the UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee.

Prof. Jacek K. Furdyna
Dr. Jacek Furdyna is a physicist from University of Notre Dame
specializing in condensed matter. His lecture
Making Semiconductors Ferromagnetic: Reasons, Challenges, and
Opportunities
focuses on a new class of semiconductors that exhibit
ferromagnetic properties. This new class of materials can lead to
major advances in technology.

Himalayas, Andes
