Oct 26, 7:30 pm: Jazzman Mikołaj Trzaska at Good Shepherd Center

Mikołaj Trzaska

The Earshot Jazz Festival presents a concert by a trio led by pianist Robin Holcomb with JP Carter (trumpet) and Dylan van der Schyff (drums). The concert will open with Polish saxophonist and clarinet player Mikołaj Trzaska. Mr. Trzaska is a composer and player based in Gdansk, he also writes scores to movies and theatrical plays.

Oct 21, 10 am - 2pm: Fall Cleanup at the Polish Cultural Center

The Polish Home Assn invites all members and friends of the Polish Home to a cleanup party from 10 am to 2 pm, delicious lunch included! Besides the usual tending to the greenery around the building, the goal is spruce up interior downstairs and upstairs. Please come with your own tools and cleaning supplies. Everyone is invited.

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski - drop by when you can for as long as you can - every pair of hands helps! Free lunch served!

Oct 20 - Nov 2: Movie Loving Vincent at SIFF Cinema Uptown

This ground breaking feature-length painted animation movie is a bio of Vincent van Gogh, the famous impressionist painter, covering his entire life and his famous paintings. The film has been co-created by Polish painter Dorota Kobiela and filmmaker Hugh Welchman who won an Oscar for Peter and the Wolf  in 2008.

Oct 19, 6-9 pm: SPFF: Vodka and a Drop of Art Party at the Polish Cultural Center

The Seattle Polish Film Festival invites everybody to the festival kick-off party at the Polish Home in Seattle. Vodka and a Drop of Art is a showcase of classic Polish poster art, with music, food, red carpet photos, vodka testing and a chance to meet Polish filmmakers coming to this year's SPFF. This event is also part of the Capitol Hill Art Walk. Come to enjoy the art, the spirits and starting the festival in style.

Oct 8, 2:30 pm: PHA Members' Photograph Taking at the Polish Cultural Center

The 75th anniversary photo

The Polish Home Assn invites all members of the organization to participate in a group photo that will be featured in the book commemorating 100th Anniversary of the PHA coming up in November 2018. For more info please read the PHA anniversary book brochure. The book should be available in spring 2018.

Oct 7, 9:30 am - 3:30 pm: We Are History Keepers! Workshop in Kent

This is a return of a very popular workshop. The Ethnic Heritage Council and the Greater Kent Historical Society with the UW Libraries and 4Culture present A Free Workshop on Preserving the Cultural and Historical Record of Your Ethnic Communities, Organizations and Families. UW archivists/specialists will discuss such how-to topics as preserving photos, organizing music collections, putting organizational records in order, preserving personal papers.

Oct 5, 7:30 pm: SPFF: 25th Anniversary Party at the Northwest Film Forum

 

This year it is the 25th edition of Seattle Polish Film Festival. Help SPFF celebrate this milestone at the 25th Anniversary Kick-Off Party. The program includes 2017 film trailers, 25-year photo retrospective, guest and film announcements, a sneak screening of a new festival movie, free hors d'oeuvres and festival passes at early-bird discount. Reservations are required to attend.

 

Where: at the Northwest Film Forum in Seattle; tickets are free but you have to register here to get them! Tickets are going fast, so you better hurry!

Oct 2, 7:30 pm: Seattle International Piano Festival Winners' Concert at Benaroya

The Seattle International Piano Festival & Competition (SIPF) presents the festival gold medalists in the winners' concert. Besides medals in different categories such as professional and collegiate, the Festival features the winner of the President Prize for the best performance of Chopin's works. Organized by Seattle International Piano Festival with Dr. Ivona Kaminska as the President and a co-Founder.

Oct 1, 12:30 - 2 pm: Open House at the Scout Troop Kaszuby at the Polish Cultural Center

The local Polish Scout ZHP Troop Kaszuby invites everybody interested in scouting to the first meeting of the new season. Children from 4 to 18 years old can sign up in age groups 4-7 (skrzaty), 7-11 (zuchy), 11+ (harcerze) and 15+ (wędrownicy); the meetings are at the Polish Cultural Center. The scouts organize camps and trips and provide another excellent way for children to learn Polish culture and traditions.

Oct 1, 7:30 pm: H. Minagawa in a Guest Recital at Benaroya

Seattle International Piano Festival & Competition (SIPF) presents Japanese pianist Hidemi Minagawa in a guest concert. Ms. Minagawa was the winner of the President's Prize for the best performance of Chopin's works in the 2015 competition. Her program includes mazurkas and other works by Chopin, Szymanowski and Scriabin.

 

Where: Illsley Ball Nordstrom Recital Hall in Seattle; donation suggested
