Dec 31, 7:30 pm - 2 am: New Year’s Eve party at the Polish Home / PCC

The New Year's Eve party at the Polish Home repeats the successful formula from the last two years: two parties in one! You can choose between a traditional band upstairs and a DJ downstairs. Ticket price includes a full course Polish dinner, champagne, hats and fifes.

     Upstairs:     music by The Dogtones band

     Downstairs:  disco music by a DJ, 21+ only

The doors & the bar open from 7:30 pm, sit-down dinner at 8 pm, dancing from 9 pm.

 

Where: at the upper and lower halls of the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home; tickets $65 per person (members) & $90 (non-members), make checks to PHA

Dec 24 & 26: Polish Home / PCC closed for Christmas

The Polish Cultural Center in Seattle is closed for Christmas on December 24 & 26, and on December 31, 2010, it will be open only for the New Years party. The Polish Home will be back to business as usual in the New Year.

Dec 19, 2:30 pm: Special Christmas edition Poczytajki - at the Polish Home / PCC

Joanna Wroblewska

Already well known on the Eastside, the Polish Story Time Poczytajki comes to Seattle and will be hosted by the Polish Home Library. Readings and stories for this special meeting will focus on Polish Christmas traditions, including some easy carols. Organized by Joanna Wroblewska and the Polish Home librarian, Monika Oczkowska-McNeal. The Library will be open from 2 to 4 pm and Polish children books & movies available for borrowing.

Dec 15, 7 pm: Paper cutting workshop at the Polish Home / PCC

The Polish Cultural Center invites to a Wycinanki workshop teaching the old art of Polish paper cutting. You can learn about this beautiful art along with tips and techniques to complete your own wycinanki projects. Materials are included and cutting tools will be available during the class. Bring your creativity, passion and patience!

 

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home; from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm; $10 fee covers all the materials and tools for the workshop.

Dec 11, 6 pm: St. Nicolas party in Kirkland

This is another Mikolajki party, organized by the Polish School in Bellevue. The  program includes a performance about different holiday customs Holiday Travel Around the World / Bozonarodzeniowa podroz dookola swiata by the schoolchildren , a traditional Santa Claus visit, sharing of Christmas wafers and sweat treats. Every child is welcomed!

Dec 11,  3 pm: East West Encounters  concert at the Frye Art Museum

Susan Chan

The Seattle International Piano Festival invites to East West Encounters - a concert of western classical music mixed with Asian influences performed by pianist Susan Chan. Dr. Chan teaches at the Portland State University. The program includes selected preludes, scherzo No. 2 in B-flat minor by Chopin, as well as works by Somei Satoh and Tan Dun.

Dec 11, 3-6 pm - till Dec 29: Poznanski paintings at the Wallingford Center

KERF International Exhibitions invites to the opening of an exhibition by Kazimierz Poznanski. The Soft Gray exhibition includes about a dozen paintings, mostly landscapes and scenes reminiscent of old photographs. Mr. Poznanski is a painter, a poet and a Professor of Economy at the University of Washington, with interest in Chinese art. His paintings were exhibited in US, Canada and China.

Dec 10, 4 pm: Polish Story Time Poczytajki - Christmas edition

Joanna Wroblewska

This is a Christmas edition of the Polish Story Time Poczytajki for  kindergarten kids - readings and stories for this meeting will focus on Christmas and Polish Christmas traditions, including some easy carols. Organized by Joanna Wroblewska with the help of the King County Public Libraries.

 

Where: at the Bellevue Regional Library in Bellevue; admission free, in Polish

Dec 10, 6:30 - 8 pm: Polish Library opening at the Polish Home / PCC

The Polish Library at the Polish Cultural Center in Seattle has moved to its new location upstairs and is open for business with a variety of magazines, books and movies for children, grown ups and families.  Please come to enjoy and borrow your favorite books and movies.

Dec 10, 8:30 pm: Christmas traditions & carols at the Polish Home / PCC

Everybody is invited to an evening devoted to the joy of Christmas traditions and caroling. Your favorite songs will be on the list and some song-books will be available as well. So please come and join in a sing-along for carols sung both from the Polish and English repertoire.

 

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center / Polish Home; admission free; This event is a go - some members of the Podhale group and the Polish Choir will be present.

This is a Mikolajki party for kids organized by the Polish Cultural Center. There will be a friendly competition for all children to perform a song or say a little poem for awards. A Santa Claus visit will be a highlight of the event. The restaurant will be open from 1 pm to 4 pm.

Dec 4, 7 pm: Salon of Poetry  presents Fortepian Chopina at the Polish Home

Frederic Chopin

Salon of Poetry in Seattle invites to Fortepian Chopina, an evening of poetry and music celebrating Chopin's anniversary. Program prepared by Leszek Chudzinski includes poems by great Polish poets from Norwid and Lenartowicz to Galczynski and Twardowski. Ms. Jaan Dementeev will play Chopin's polonaise F# minor, three mazurkas, two preludes, a nocturne and a fantasia. Poems are in Polish.

This is a meeting of the Polish Story Time Poczytajki for kids - Polish children books and stories are read to kids from kindergarten and early elementary grades. In this meeting: children poems, rhymes, songs and finger plays. Organized by Joanna Wroblewska with the help of the King County Public Libraries.

Dec 2, 7-9 pm: Arts, show & tell by Kasia Pawluskiewicz at the Polish Home

Kasia with her catch

Local artist & adventurer Kasia Pawluskiewicz is back from Alaska where she worked as a chef, videographer and crew member on a charter boat. She will be releasing her new Alaskan Seafood cook book, hosting a casual evening art exhibition of fish prints she made while at sea and sharing her experiences.  A smoked salmon infused vodka bloody Mary will be available as well as fresh Alaskan king salmon.
