Solidarity Activists Honored on Poland's Independence Day

At the Poland's Independence Day celebration at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski in Seattle on November 15, 2015, Honorary Consul Teresa Indelak Davis decorated Mr. Jerzy Las with the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity. At a similar celebration in Washington, DC on November 13, Ms. Wanda Studenny received the Cross of Freedom and Solidarity on behalf of her deceased husband, Mr. Z. Andrzej Studenny. These honors have been bestowed by the President of Poland.

Polish Consul Honors Local Activists

At the meeting at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski on October 2, 2015, Consul General Mariusz Brymora decorated three members of the local Polish community. Ms. Anna Cholewinska and Mr. John (Janusz) Golubiec each received the Gold Cross of Merit; Mr. Ryszard Kott received the Officer's Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland. These honors have been bestowed by the President of Poland.

Ladies Auxiliary invite everybody to pierogi making sessions before the Fall Bazaar at the Polish Home on Nov 7-8, 2015. Come to help, or come to learn how to make pierogi first and then help at one of these days:

   All pierogi making sessions are at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski on Tuesdays from 7 to 9 pm.

 Seattle Polish Festival Needs Volunteers on July 11, 2015

Polish Festival at the Seattle Center needs many volunteers on July 11 – if you would like to help, sign up now! Please see the festival volunteer page or this memo for more details and info how to sign up, or contact the PF volunteer coordinator Monte Bridges.

Among others, the Festival urgently needs volunteers to present Polish food making in the cooking demos and artist who could do a workshop on painting on glass.

Mr. Andrzej Duda, a lawyer from Cracow, has been elected the next President of the Republic of Poland. These are the results

 Presidential Elections, First Round Results

The first round of the Elections was  won by Mr. Andrzej Duda, both locally in Seattle and in Poland. Mr. Komorowski, the incumbent president, came slightly behind, while Mr. Kukiz came strong on third, beating handedly all the other professional politicians. These are the results

 GiveBIG to Local Polish Organizations - update

On May 5, the Seattle Foundation (SF) hosted the annual GiveBIG event and the Polish community participated in it through the Polish Home Foundation (PHF).

 

So far this year, the PHF received about $10,000 in donations through the campaign. The bulk of the donations (about $9,000) came through the SF website, but there were also check donations sent directly to the PHF. The biggest beneficiaries are: Polish Festival in Seattle Center ($2,550), UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee ($2,350) and the Herbst documentary movie ($1,700). Also supported were Seattle Polish Film Festival, the Polish Home Association, the Young Polanie Group, the Polish School in Seattle and the PHF General Fund.  Pierogi Fest Needs Volunteers on May 16, 2015

Pierogi Fest is coming up on May 16 in a new formula and setup to make pierogi available to more guests. Several volunteer positions are still open - please contact John Golubiec.

 

Next, Polish Festival at the Seattle Center has started the volunteer signups for this year's event that will be held on July 11. Please see the festival volunteer page for more details and info how to sign up, or contact the PF volunteer coordinator Monte Bridges.

2015 Elections & Changes at Polish Organizations

At a recent meeting of the Polish Home Foundation Board of Directors, the Board appointed Mr. John Golubiec the President of the Foundation. Mr. Andrew Okinczyc resigned due to taking over a leading role at the American Legion Lodge in Port Townsend. Congratulations!

  

At a recent annual meeting of the Polish American Chamber of Commerce Pacific Northwest, Mr. Bohdan Raciborski was re-elected President and Ms. Mirka Nakovski re-elected Vice President of the PACC PNW. Congratulations!

 

At a recent annual meeting of the Seattle-Gdynia Sister City Association, Mr. Sebastian Niziol has been elected President, taking over from Ms. Gail Wodzin, and Mr. Paul Griffin was elected Vice President of the SGSCA. Congratulations!

Volunteers / Mentors Needed for a Summer Business School in Poland

Volunteer as a Company or Student Advisor at one of the international Washington Business Weeks summer schools for high school students in Poland! Weeklong sessions to choose from are: June 28 - July 3 in Gorzow, July 5-10 in Boleslawowo, July 19-24 in Gdansk,  August 9–14 in Wloclawek and August 16-21 in Gdynia.

  

The next Advisor orientation will be held on May 9, 2015, from 9 am to noon at the Polish Home in Seattle.

 GiveBIG to Local Polish Organizations on May 5, 2015

On May 5, the Seattle Foundation (SF) hosts the annual GiveBIG event – a one-day, online charitable giving event to benefit local nonprofits. The reason this is important to us as the Polish community is that every donation given during this event gets additional bonus money from "angels" working with the SF.

 

You can support all local Polish causes, events and orgs in the Pacific Northwest by donating during this event. The Polish Home Foundation partners with the SF for this event. You can support your favorite cause by donating to the PHF through the Seattle Foundation PHF Profile Page and providing a comment where the money should go. More info about

At the Polish Home Association elections on January 26, 2015, Mr. Pawel Krupa was re-elected the PHA President. At a later meeting, Mr. John Golubiec was re-elected as the Chairman of the Board of Trustees. Congratulations!

  

At a recent meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary, Ms. Irena Kulik was elected the President of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Polish Home. Congratulations!

Consular Visit to Seattle on June  2 & 3, 2015 - Reservations Needed

The Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Los Angeles kindly informs that the consular visit to Seattle to process passport applications only is scheduled for June 2 & 3, 2015. The Consul will be available at the Polish Cultural Center from 9 am to 5 pm both days by reservation only. To make a reservation send an email to [email protected] stating your name, DOB, the PESEL number and a preferred time.

   

Where: at the Polish Cultural Center Dom Polski in Seattle, WA reservations required.

The Stranger Touts the Polish Home Restaurant & Its Chef Barbara Patrick

Pierogi and other Polish dishes never fail to make a great impression on the visitors to the Polish Hall! The Stranger has just run a story highlighting local places to eat in different parts of the City  with the Polish Home Restaurant PB Kitchen as the place to eat on Capitol Hill. The story comes with a big pictures of the PB Kitchen chef, Mrs. Barbara Patrick, too. Congratulations!

Mrs. Krystyna Balut Recognized Among the Inspiring People by The Huffington Post

Mrs. Krystyna Balut has been chosen by The Huffington Post as one of the 12 Ordinary People Whose Lives Can Inspire Us in 2015. This is a follow up to a long article on Mrs. Balut’s family story published by The Huffington Post in 2014. Mrs. Balut is a survivor of the massive deportations of Polish citizens to the Soviet gulag camps during WWII. She has been spreading the awareness of this events through A Trip To Nowhere film and book based on family documents and interviews with several survivors from the Seattle area. Congratulations!
